We’ve been working hard to give our website fresh new look, and we’re really excited to share our company achievements and historical events which we have been lucky to capture.

Live Conference Hybrid Video Streaming UK & World Wide

Things have changed a lot since we first launched our website 20 years ago. Back then, websites were pretty basic. They were mostly text based, with a few simple images. But over the years, websites have evolved into much more sophisticated pieces of technology.

In the early days, video recording was a pretty complicated process. You needed a lot of expensive equipment, and it was difficult to edit the videos that you recorded. But now, anyone can record and edit & stream videos with just a smartphone.

We’ve taken advantage of all of these technological advancements to give our website a new look. We’ve updated our design, and we’ve added a lot of new features. We’ve also revived some of our old blog posts to showcase our capabilities.

The Turner Prize 2007 - Liverpool, Tate Gallery UK - Full Technical & Creative Production Delivery
The Turner Prize 2007 - Liverpool, Tate Gallery UK - Full Technical & Creative Production Delivery

Established in 1984 to celebrate new developments in contemporary art, the Turner Prize is awarded each year to a British artist under fifty for an outstanding exhibition or other presentation of their work in the twelve months preceding. Over the last 2 decades, the Turner Prize has played a significant role in provoking debate about visual art and has become widely recognised as one of the most important and prestigious awards for the visual arts in Europe.
The awards evening is traditionally staged at Tate Britain, London however to officially launch Liverpool’s year as Capital of Culture 08, the 2007 ceremony was held at Tate Liverpool.

The brief was to deliver a seamless presentation, visible and audible to all guests whilst ensuring that the look and feel of the project truly embodied the spirit of the Tate.
The venue presented the team with some unique challenges. In total there were over 800 invited guests however the presentation would take place in the Wolfson Gallery, which could only accommodate 150 people. The remaining delegates were situated throughout the Cafe, Shop, and Foyer. To enable these guests to see the presentation, large plasma screens were situated around the venue and a sound system featuring over 30 small speakers was installed.

The key challenge was to get the look and feel correct. As an art gallery, the Tate is clean, minimal and white. The hundreds of metres of cabling feeding the plasmas and speakers had to be discreet and the speakers and plasma stands had to be aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Lighting in the Wolfson Gallery was another key area and a palette of magenta and oranges and was chosen to reflect the corporate branding. This lighting was mirrored in the fourth floor pudding room where guests would go to eat a selection of fine deserts.

Submarine Naming - BAE Systems Astute

The challenge was set. To produce the launch of the first Astute Class Submarine at BAE Systems Submarine Solutions in Barrow-in Furness. With a 12-month lead time the team were on a mission.

With the submarine measuring 100m long x 16m wide, the launch had to take place in Devonshire Dock Hall, the largest indoor submarine build facility in Europe. This nuclear facility requires the highest-level security checks on all staff and vehicles working onsite.

The event build took one week and involved 135 crew, 15 articulated lorries, 10 x 7.5 tonne trucks and 2 coaches to transport personnel. From laying temporary flooring covering over 10,000m2, to installing a 100m2 LED Video Screen to enable viewing for over 11,000 people, to the construction of a carpeted 50m x 10m semi-permanent catering structure (complete with chandeliers) for 450 VIP’s, the launch required event and delegate management of the very highest level.

And this was just the daytime event. The evening celebration was a party for 7000 people, again within the nuclear facility. 3 live bands, including a 12-piece Soul Band performed on a 40m2 concert stage. To control the sound in the Devonshire Dock Hall, baffling drapes were hung from cranes over 100ft high and a further 2 x 25m2 LED Video Screens were rigged to the truss structure of the Concert Stage to aid audience visibility. A full buffet meal and bar facilities were provided for all 7,000 attendees. The evening concluded with a 20 minute firework display set to music.

Latest Technology for Audio Visual Recording and Media Formats for events

In recent years, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, event Companies have been forced to adopt a remote-first approach to conferences and similar events. For many, the transition from live events to digital events was a steep learning curve. Fortunately for Comtec they were able to draw on their many years of doing Live events via Satellite. Obviously the software as an interface was different and had to be explored and learnt, however the transition between a satellite truck and a fibre link was easy.

However, thanks to major advances in audio-visual technology, promoters have the resources to deliver a similar experience that you might receive if you were actually at a live event. This approach has extended to other industries as well, including music .

“With large gatherings limited during the Coronavirus pandemic, artists are experimenting with new ways to perform, and some of these shows are already attracting millions of fans globally,”

“The pandemic has fuelled other innovations like multiplayer video game concerts. On April 23, more than 12 million Fortnite players attended Travis Scott’s 10-minute virtual performance. Comtec alone regularly put out events around this period to Large scale audiences including sitting them at tables of ten so they could network privately before being let into the main event. While the future of live events remained uncertain for a little as we continued to navigate a post-virus world, digital events will continued to shape the way consumers engage, interact, and consume live content.

Personally, I think we have seen in-person events make a big comeback but I think virtual and hybrid events are likely here to stay for a number of reasons. For example, bigger audiences can be reached at a lower cost and climate change is going to continue to make people reconsider non-essential travel.
