Creating a 24-metre animated visual environment for a major awards ceremony
Comtec has worked with Edge Global Media Group across multiple events over several years, providing technical production support for both conferences and awards ceremonies.
The variety of events means the production requirements can change significantly from one project to the next — from clear and effective conference communication to the greater sense of theatre required for an awards evening.
The Challenge
For one of Edge Global Media Group’s major awards ceremonies, the requirement was to create a large-scale visual environment capable of transforming the entire backdrop of the event.
Rather than treating video, graphics and lighting as separate production elements, the objective was to create one coordinated visual experience across the room
The Comtec Solution
Comtec provided a 24-metre-wide visual canvas across the event backdrop.
This allowed animated graphics and video content to move across the full width of the presentation environment, creating a much greater sense of scale than a conventional central presentation screen.
The visual content was then choreographed with an intelligent lighting system, allowing lighting, animation and video to work together as part of the awards production.
The result was an immersive presentation environment in which the backdrop itself became part of the show.
More Than a Screen
The important part of the solution wasn’t simply its size.
It was the integration of content, display technology and intelligent lighting.
By considering those elements together, the production could change the atmosphere of the room throughout the ceremony and give different parts of the programme their own visual identity.
