Complete Awards Ceremony Production for an NHS Staff Recognition Event

For NHS Tameside & Glossop, the annual staff awards are an opportunity to celebrate employees, recognise achievement and bring colleagues together for an important evening of recognition.
In 2023, Comtec was appointed to provide the technical production for the event, taking responsibility for a complex audiovisual requirement and working closely with the NHS team to deliver the production within a demanding timescale.
The success of that first event developed into repeat work, with Comtec returning to support subsequent NHS awards productions.
The Challenge
Awards ceremonies combine many different production disciplines into one live event.
Presenters, award recipients, video content, music, lighting, graphics, sound and stage activity all have to come together at precisely the right moment.
For the NHS team, there was an additional challenge.
They were looking for a new production partner capable of handling a complex AV setup, working under significant time pressure and maintaining close communication throughout the planning process.
The production therefore needed to achieve two things:
Create an awards environment worthy of the people being recognised.
And:
Give the NHS organising team confidence that the technical production was under control.

Planning Before Show Day
The client’s feedback following the first event highlighted something we believe is particularly important.
Good event production doesn’t begin when the equipment arrives at the venue.
The NHS team specifically recognised the communication between Comtec and their organisers in the period leading up to the event, ensuring requirements were addressed rather than being left until the last minute.
That preparation allows the production team to concentrate on delivering the live event when the doors finally open.
Working Under Pressure
Live events have fixed deadlines.
When several hundred guests are arriving at a particular time, the show cannot simply be postponed because the production team would prefer another day.
For the first NHS awards event, Comtec delivered a complex technical setup under significant time pressure.
That requires more than equipment.
It requires experienced people, preparation, communication and the ability to make practical decisions when time matters.
The Result
The event was successfully delivered and extremely well received by the client and audience.
More importantly, the first event became the beginning of an ongoing relationship, with Comtec returning to support subsequent NHS awards events.
