We are pleased to invite submission of abstracts for free paper and poster presentations at the inaugural IPS Conference - Infection Prevention 2008. The conference provides an opportunity to share the latest practitioner research, advances in audit and surveillance and service improvement initiatives in the field of infection prevention across the health and social care economy. The themes of this year’s conference are;
· Informing infection prevention practice
· Promoting public and patient safety
· Sustaining quality improvement.
Abstract themes
Abstracts on all aspects of infection prevention are invited. However, work in the following areas is particularly welcomed:
· Antimicrobial prescribing and stewardship
· Audit and surveillance in healthcare associated infection
· Behavioural aspects of infection prevention
· Clinical leadership in infection prevention
· Communicable diseases, immunology and vaccine development
· Community care acquired infection, prevention and control
· Education of healthcare staff and the public
· Environmental contamination and care settings
· Improving patient outcome through service improvement initiatives
· Infection prevention in specialist areas such as cancer care, mental health, prisons, renal care
· Involving patients and the public in infection prevention
· Outbreak management
· Surgical site infection
Abstract Submission Guidelines
1. Abstracts will only be accepted if received online in the requested format.
2. The abstract submission deadline haas been extended. Abstracts must now be submitted by FRIDAY 20thJUNE 2008. An email confirmation of receipt will be sent within 48 hours.
3. Abstract selection will consider the quality of the study and demonstration of the abstract's relevance to the conference themes.
4. The first author should ideally be the presenting author - please note that all correspondence will be sent to the first author.
5. Please note the number of oral presentations and posters is limited and the selection panel may suggest an abstract is accepted in the alternative presentation format.
6. The first author will be notified of the decision of the selection panel by email in the first week of July 2008. The decision of the panel is final.
7. Accepted abstracts will be reproduced in the printed and online programme.
8. The presenting author must register to attend the conference by 30th July 2008 and will be required to pay registration fees.
A prize will be awarded at the end of the Conference for the best free paper and poster presentation.
